In a perfect world, every morning I would awake refreshed and ready to walk out the door looking like I came from a spa. My makeup would be flawless, my hair straight and frizz free and I would be on time or maybe even early
When permanent makeup arrived on the scene it attracted many clients with the possibility of one step toward that perfect world. But while there are an abundance of happy customers there are also more than a few skeptics and horror stories.
At spas, doctors’ offices or even nail salons across the country you can get your eyelids, brows, lips or cheeks permanently placed on your face.
While what you are getting is called permanent makeup it is really just another tattoo. And just like that any body tattoo, if you have a change of heart it’s hard, expensive and even risky to remove.
Just like with any tattoo, permanent makeup can be dangerous. From an artist’s slip of hand to infections and growths, permanent makeup is more than skin deep. The FDA has found more than 150 cases of infections, allergic reactions and developments of growths like granulomas and keloids.
More surprising than infections and allergic reactions are the reports of complications related to the metallic inks in permanent makeup. The ink and pigments used in permanent makeup are subject to FDA regulations as cosmetics and color additives. But the FDA has not attempted to regulate the inks and does not control the actual practice of tattooing.
These inks can cause pain or inflammation during MRI procedures and can even oxidize in the skin, also known as “rust.”
With the growth in popularity of tattooing and permanent makeup, FDA has begun taking a closer look at related safety questions. Among the issues under consideration are tattoo removal, adverse reactions to tattoo colors, and infections that result from tattooing.
Just like any other permanent body option, think before you ink.
Have you tried permanent makeup? What were your results? If you haven’t would you?

I was really considering having permanent eye liner and lip color put on, but your post made me think twice. There’s not a lot of information out there on permanent cosmetics and I have never met anyone that has had this procedure done.
