Shelf Talkers - The “Silent Salespeople”

Wouldn’t it be nice if you had an employee that did everything you said, never talked back, was never late, and never needed a vacation? Shelf-talkers, or Point of Purchase Display Signs, are that employee! They work wherever they are placed to help promote a specific product, promotion, or your business when you or an employee isn’t around to answer questions for a customer.

To create shelf-talkers, all you need is a little creativity, a computer, and perhaps a camera and digital photo album. Many product lines provide point of sale marketing support items to their customers. Scandle, for instance, provides free shelf talkers with your first retail order!

Shelf-talkers have three main job functions and can be so much more than just sharing the price of your products:

Entice - One job of the shelf-talker is to entice clients to stop, look at the product, and read the message. A key factor leading to a sale is how much time a client spends looking at or experiencing the product. Messages can include: “Try Me!”, “New Product!”, or ask a question like “Got A Hot Date Night Tonight?” (Then a Scandle Massage Candle is definitely in order!) ;)

Inspire - Inspire your clients to purchase products to meet their needs (i.e time saving, erasing fine lines, convenient travel size). In this instance, the shelf-talker not only attracts the attention of the client, but addresses a problem or need and provides a solution.

Educate - Use shelf-talkers to highlight an ingredient and share a benefit. For example Scandle Lotion Candles contain soy, soy is an all natural ingredient that helps to even out skin tone and skin discoloration. This benefit could be highlighted next to your display of Scandle Body Candles. By educating, you are on your way to increasing sales through knowledge!

Humor is also a good way to sell products and help clients remember the product and message. For instance, “Hard day at the office? How about a Margarita Massage Candle? It’s relaxation without the hangover!”

Don’t let your shelf-talkers get stale. Spruce them up monthly to fit the season, holiday, or current promotion.
