A few days ago we talked about how to get your holistic health business online by way of online directories and review sites. Today we’ll discuss how to get into online searches.
Think of terms or “keywords” that your customers will use to find your business. For instance, if we wanted to find relevant keywords that our potential customers are using to Scandle Body Candles, we might try “wholesale massage candles,” “wholesale spa candles,” or “private label body candles.” Are you coming up in the search results? If not, update your site’s content to include words and phrases that people are likely to use when searching for your services. If you have no idea what words and phrases potential clients are looking up you can use Google Analytics for a list of the top keywords currently used in searches that drive traffic to your website.
What is Google Analytics? It’s a free service and works with any website. You sign up using a Gmail account (which is also free…love that!). Then, go to the settings page and access the how-to guide for coding your site so Google can track the traffic to, from and within your site.
The most frequently used and most popular search engine that most of your future clients use is Google. Granted, there are a number of subscription-based sites. But they usually don’t make much financial sense for small spas, massage clinics or holistic health businesses. One that we recently found out about however is Crazy Egg (www.crazyegg.com). It’s a relatively inexpensive service that illustrates visually where visitors are clicking on your page. Crazy Egg combined with Google Analytics will give you a complete picture of what content is most appealing to clients, as well as who is visiting your site and how they are finding you.
We recommend reviewing your analytics at least once a month. Initially, to establish a baseline analysis of the health of your site. After that, monthly, to find out what promos and information are popular and to adjust your marketing and site content accordingly.
