Size Matters- 6 Portion Control Tips!

Though you may be consuming healthy food, you may not be consuming a healthy amount. When eating on the go, it can be very difficult to count calories. Check out these 6 tips for practicing portion control:

1) Share- Welcome others to nibble off of your plate. Less calories for you : )

2) Divide your plate- When eating out, you are often served large portions. Split your plate in half and wait at least 10 minutes after eating to assess if you’re still hungry. If not, take the other half to go for a meal the next day.

3) Use a smaller plate- The bigger the plate, the more room you’ll be tempted to fill. Stick with a standard 8 to 10 inch plate for each meal.

4) Stop eating mindlessly- Instead of plopping down on the couch with a bag of chips and eating the entire bag during your favorite show, set aside a reasonable portion in a bowl or on a napkin.

5) Limit your options- In a buffet setting, give yourself a small number of dishes to choose from and stick to that number.

6) Eat more frequently- Instead of eating three large meals, eat five or six smaller meals throughout the day.
