Wouldn’t you love if you could eat more often and weigh less? You can! Check out these 8 tips for smart snacking:
1) Don’t wait too long before eating- Instead of helping you lose weight, this causes your blood sugar to drop and contributes to overeating.
2) Count the calories- Your snacks should not have as many calories as your standard meal! Count out 100-150 calories for each snack.
3) Stop multi-tasking- Instead of mindlessly eating while you’re watching TV or sitting at the computer, take the time to actually sit down and enjoy your food. Snacking with distractions can cause overeating.
4) Plan it out- Personally, the times I eat unhealthy are the times I’m all out of groceries! Don’t wait until you get so hungry that you grab any and everything. Plan out your portions and pack your snacks ahead of time!
5) Run away from trans-fats- Check the labels and stay away from packaged cookies and snack cakes. Trans-fats can lead to high cholesterol.
6) Drink more water- Many times we confuse hunger with thirst. Drink a glass of water before and after each meal and before deciding to indulge in a snack.
7) Don’t eat a carbohydrate alone- Instead of just having pretzels, chips, or an apple, pair with protein or a healthy fat.
8 ) Take it out of the box- Do not eat straight from the box, bag, or can. Measure your portions and put in a snack bag. It’s too tempting to grab just one more.
